In the same 'session', if that is the word, I visualised a chess pawn that could also move sideways, maybe because of the use of the orthogonal/diagonal division in Come Together. It's a pawn so it was fair to assume that it didn't move or capture backwards. Based on that I saw it move only orthogonally and capture only diagonally, and that smelled like a race game like Dan Troyka's Breakthrough.

Of course sideways movement implies cycles that can kill a race game, but they can be cleverly avoided by making a forwards move or capture obligatory, while making a sideways move optional in the same turn. This gives rise to a surprising tackic in the late middle game or the endgame: If and only if the forwards move or capture cannot be made, the sideways move will be obligatory. Which in many cases will mean that the player to move must sacrifice the piece that makes the move.
