The first jump is a 'kite' and it can only be cut conditionally.
Jumping means extending farther than the next point. Of the various jumps, the kite is the most solid though it can be broken with a mill or a split. Other jumps are mostly employed as threats to connect. They give initiative to extend in a desired direction, the 'magnet' effect.
